AtomoSynth takes on the desktop semi-modular monosynth format with the KOE-M6 that mixes Moog and Make Noise stylings with some unique features.

Following on from when in 2017 we saw the dual oscillator KOE at the Tokyo Festival of Modular, the new KOE-M6 has built on the ideas of the original. The new model has kept its vactrol filters with both a high and low pass filter, which AtomoSynth seems to be renowned for as they offer the filter cutoff a more organic response, reports Gear News.

As the original KOE was a dual oscillator, it’s interesting that the team at AtmosSynth decided to move to a single analog oscillator. What’s more interesting is that there is a square wave oscillator available, but it’s digitally controlled and only accessible via MIDI.

The analog oscillator houses sawtooth and pulse waveforms with pulse width modulation. There’s also a sub-oscillator at -1 or -2 octaves that also houses a square wave. The DCO (digitally controlled oscillator) is triggered by MIDI and it has its own output.

Both triangle and square waveforms are produced by the onboard LFO, and the frequency of the LFO can also be voltage controlled. The KOE-MG has a Random Voltage Modulator with 6 modes: Sample & Hold, random, dust, random gate, pulse, and MIDI CC. The ADSR envelope and a loopable Slope Generator with CV controllable rise and fall allow us to control the shape of our sound. A Delay effect with CV controllable delay time is also a part of the package and sits at the end of the chain.

The front panel can actually come off so you can fit the oscillator into your Eurorack system. The case is made from rugged sheet metal, and the patch bay gives us 17 inputs and 15 outputs – as well as a MIDI interface. An onboard voltage mixer allows us to mix up our modulations too.

The KOE-M6 should begin shipping from February 1st at a price of $449 with free shipping worldwide.

The KOE-M6 is a monophonic analog semi-modular synthesizer. It features all the classic circuits like: One oscillator with sub-oscillator, audio mixer, low-frequency oscillator, high and low pass filter, ADSR envelope generator and also some special ones like a loopable slope generator, multimode random voltage modulator, a voltage mixer and with it’s 32 point patchbay you can experiment and create not only classic warm analog sounds but a great variety of interesting and otherworldly soundscapes
